Object Agency developed promotion cards (above) and teamed up with client, Tandus Flooring, to create the “ground” for this art installation at the Marfa Book Co., Marfa, TX.
In The Figure is Always Ground, artist Charles Mary Kubricht transformed the gallery walls and ceiling with her signature high-contrast perspective forms. Kubricht is known for geometric compositions that disrupt or distort perception of objects and spaces by altering familiar visual cues in a way that invites viewers to question what they see.
As specified by Object Agency, the existing bamboo floor was temporarily covered with modular tiles of Plexus Colour II (Dark Shadow) donated by Tandus Flooring. Plexus Colour II mixes yarn-dyed and solution-dyed fibers (which, notably, are produced from 100% recycled content) to create a three-dimensional texture.

Charles Mary Kubricht’s work can also be experienced at Manhattan’s High Line park, just minutes away from the Object Agency’s West 25th Street studio.
Friends of the High Line launched the Fall 2001 public art season with Kubricht’s Alive-nesses: Proposal for Adaptation. The installation is painted on park storage containers located on the High Line at the Rail Yards and can be viewed from the northern end of the park near West 30th Street.
